A Wonder of the World and a great daytrip from Merida! There are plenty of day trips available to book directly from the city center. Be sure to wear SPF, bring a sun umbrella, and pack lots of water! We suggest a guided tour to take in all the incredible history of the area. The drive is about 1.5 hours, making for an easy and enjoyable day in the sun! Fun Fact: not many people know of the incredible night tours available at Chichén Itzá. If you are able, stay to enjoy one of the most incredible light shows you will ever experience!

A cenote is a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting when a collapse of limestone bedrock exposes groundwater. The term originated on the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, where the ancient Maya commonly used cenotes for water supplies, and occasionally for sacrificial offerings. There are a large number of cenotes you can visit from Merida, all providing their own unique and spiritual experiences.
Some of our favourties include Cenote Suytun, Cenote Ik-Kil, and Cenote Xoch. Entrance to the areas is very reasonable, and most offer restaurants and refreshments on site. Be sure to bring your bathing suit and be aware that most cenotes will require that you rinse off at the available showers before you enter the water to help preserve the beauty of these natural phenomena.
A great resource for the surrounding cenotes can be found here.
Visit the Pink Lagoons and flamingo watch! Coloured by the naturally occurring salt flats, Las Coloradas is a great day-tip from Merida! You can opt for a private tour, or travel by car to this gorgeous destination.
